Boomerang Giving

boomerang.jpg

Philippians 4:14-19

The Australian Aborigines invented a device called a boomerang, which is a curved, hard piece of wood about 12" to 30" long and is flat on one side and convex on the other.  They discovered if they threw it parallel to the ground, it would go out about 300' and return to the thrower.  Today's message is about "boomerang giving."  This is when we give and God gives it back!

Ol' Pants on Fire

2 Corinthians 8:1-5

We know Satan is the father of lies, and if we buy into one of his lies, he wins.  Remember he came to kill, steal, and destroy because he wants us to stay in bondage to something.  Today, we are going to talk about some of his lies about giving.

Lie #1:  I should let the "better to do" people handle the giving. v. 2a,c
We need to ask, "Lord what do you want ME to give?"

Lie #2:  I should resist and desist giving away the money I worked so hard for.  v. 2 b
It is not OUR money!  Giving should be done joyfully not begrudgingly.

Lie #3:  I should let the bottom line dictate how I should give.  v. 3a
The Macedonians gave BEYOND their ability.  Out needs will always exceed our supply unless we allow Christ to be in charge of our finances. .

Lie #4:  I will wait to give until the pastor's guilty pressure becomes unbearable.  v.4

v,  5 - God wants us to give ourselves first.  God wants to see us, his children, trust HIM.
Have we yielded this part of our life to Him?

A Booster Shot

Malachi 3:7-12

Our immunization technology has come a long way, but some vaccines still require a booster shot every now and then to protect us.  Likewise, many of you have been immunized against greed and unbelief by the Word of God - you have become faithful, joyful and obedient givers, but this is an area where we need an occasional booster shot!

The overriding question is this:  Do you trust God enough to believe He will take care you?

1.  The apparent problem with giving is a spiritual one.  v. 7-9
God wants our whole heart but we rob God through our tithes and offerings.
         There are consequences to disobedience.

2.  The appointed plan isa proportional one.  v. 10a.
References:  Genesis 14:20 and Matthew 23:23

3.  The anointed provision is an overflowing one.  v. 10b-11

4.  The approved purpose for giving is the glory of God.  v. 12

Revisionist Economics

John 6:1-14

You have probably heard the phrase "revisionist history," which means historians today are rewriting, editing, and changing history as we have known history.  Today we want to talk about how the Lord has rewritten, edited and changed the laws of economics as we have known them.

1.  The Problem the disciples faced.  v. 1-6

2.  Possible solutions to the problem.  v. 7-9

3.  The Provision the Lord made.  v. 10-14

If God is Lord of our finances we will find contentment.
