Spiritual Warfare Series Final - Deployment Day

Ephesians 6:10-20

Military families undergo a lot of preparation for deployment day, both for the mission and for the anticipated changes to family life.  We have been studying about putting on the armor of God, and today's message explains that we are now at our deployment day.   This is our final message in the Spiritual Warfare series - Prayer.

* Prayer is a vital part of spiritual warfare.
Prayer is how we stay in contact with our commanding officer.
Prayer should be a first response, not our last resort.
Prayer is vitally important for spiritual warfare.
Prayer is how we understand God and how we get to know God.
Prayer aligns our desires with God's desires
             Add'l references:  Psalm 37:4 and Psalm 34:3

*  If God is sovereign, why pray?

*  Praying with power
            Add'l references:  I John 5:14-15 and Colossians 1:9-11

Thinking you are too busy to pray?               We are too busy not to pray!

Spiritual Warfare Series - Let's Rumble

Ephesians 6:10-17

A rumble is a fight or brawl, often between two street gangs, and back in the 1950's involved switch blade knives.  Today, as we continue talking about our ongoing brawl with Satan, I want to demonstrate our need to bring a blade to this fight.  Let's rumble...

Spiritual Warfare Series - Battle for your Mind

Ephesians 6:10-17

Again, we see a Roman soldier standing nearby as the Apostle Paul pens these words and we notice he is wearing appropriate head gear, because when people are swinging swords and spiked balls around, it is a pretty good idea to protect the head.  Today we want to transfer that image to the spiritual realm and talk about "taking up" the helmet of salvation.

Salvation means "to deliver" and it comes as a 3 phase process in the Christian's life.
1.  Justification - (Past) We are justified by faith apart from the law.  We are delivered from the penalty of sin.  Romans 3:28, John 3:16, Romans 5:8

2.  Glorification - (Future) We are glorified at the point of death because we are delivered from the presence of sin.  Ephesians 5:25-27, Revelation 21:1-4

3.  Sanctification - (Present) Taking up the helmet of salvation.  The daily Christian life being conformed to the image of Christ.  2 Corinthians 3:18, Romans 12:1-2

How are we delivered from the "power" of Sin?  Ephesians 2:8-10
1.  Grace - God's undeserved favor.  We do nothing to earn God's grace.
2.  Faith - We plug into God's power through faith.
Good works do not save us but if we are saved, good works will follow.

How do we grow in our faith?  John 17:14-17Jesus prayed to the Father to keep us from the evil one.

Spiritual Warfare Series - Spiritual Defense Initiative

Ephesians 6:10-16

In 1983, President Reagan made his famous "Star Wars" speech, in which he introduced the idea of a Strategic Defense Initiative.  This was a missile defense system designed to "shield" us from incoming nuclear missiles.  Today, I want to talk about our Spiritual Defense Initiative.

We are to take up the shield of faith.

Faith is essential to spiritual warfare and the key to victorious Christian living.  I John 5:4-5
Faith is an action response to a revealed truth.

Faith is only as good as the object of our faith.

Beware of these "termites" to our faith.  Hebrews 11:1, I Peter 4:12-13
1.   Emotions
2.  Intellect
3.  Empiricism - Biblical faith transcends the senses

Spiritual Warfare Series - God's Peace Prize Winners

Ephesians 6:10-15

Alfred Nobel invented dynamite for peaceful purposes, but others turned it into weapons of war, which upset him greatly. So, he placed nine million dollars into an account, and each year, they recognize and reward some people for promoting peace in some way. These people are called Nobel Peace Prize Winners. But today we want to talk about God's Peace Prize Winners.  Definition of God's Peace = Supernatural inner sense of well being in the midst of external troubles.

We must shod our feed with the Gospel of peace- Romans 10:13-15
We must begin with having peace WITH God.  Romans 5:1; Galatians 1:6-8
We all desire the peace OF God.  Colossians 3:15; John 14:27; Philippians 4:6-7; Isaiah 26:3-4

Spiritual Warfare Series - Get Your Right On

Ephesians 6:10-14

As the Apostle Paul wrote the book of Ephesians from a Roman prison cell, he probably had a visual of a roman soldier nearby.  No doubt he would notice a breastplate designed to protect his most vital organs, not the least of which would be his heart.  Let's take a look at how that image applies to spiritual warfare.

What the bible does NOT mean when it talks about righteousness:  Reference verses:  Galatians 3:1-6; James 2:10; Galatians 3:24

What are the two aspects of Biblical righteousness?
A.  Positional righteousness:  Reference 2 Corinthians 5:21
.  Practical righteousness
