Confront your Heart: Stand on God's Word

I John 3:19-24

Right before Jesus Christ departed from the Earth, He promised peace of heart for us. Yet, I suspect some Christ-followers might say their heart is more troubled and full of fear than peace. Why is that? Today’s text addresses that issue.

v. 19-21 - The fact of assurance
Ref: Revelation 12:10-11
Psalms 103:10-12

v. 22 - The fruit of assurance = a robust prayer life.
We have not because we ask not!
Ref: Psalms 66:18
I Peter 3:7
Psalms 103:10-12

v. 23-24 - The fount of assurance - How do we maintain a confident heart?
Ref: John 15:1-5 - Abide in Him!

Put our eyes on God’s grace, not the condemnation of our heart.
We cannot let our emotions drive us. Put your faith in the facts of scripture and let your feelings follow the facts.

The Word Came

John 1:1, 1:14, 1:18

There are many aspects of the Christmas narrative, but today I want to focus on Jesus Christ as the Word.  This is a translation of the Greek word Logos, and to me a word is a means of communications.  A word takes an idea or concept in the mind and gives it expression.  Jesus Christ, the Word, gives God expression to man.

Jesus Christ is the Word Eternal v. 1

o   Deuteronomy 6:4

o   John 10:30

Jesus Christ is the Word Incarnate  v. 14

Jesus Christ is the Word Declared  v. 18

o   John 14:6

o   John 5:39

Last Words

Matthew 28:18-20

Our apologies - there is no audio for this week's sermon presented by Henry Loftin.

All authority has been given to Jesus in heaven and on earth.

Luke 4:40 - Jesus, Lord over disease, sickness, injury.
Jesus is Lord over Satan.
Mark 4:35-41 - Jesus is Lord over the laws of nature.
He is Lord over sin, the one who could forgive sin.
Mark 2:28, Luke 7 and Luke 8 and John 13 - He is Lord over the Sabbath and Lord over death.
John 14:16 - Lord over His own death - rose again.
Lord over salvation.  No one comes to the Father but through Him (Jesus).
Isaiah 54:17 - All authority is His.  Nothing comes into our lives that God does not allow and if He allows it, He has authority over it. God will be glorified in every situation.  We can lean on Him completely.

Romans 8:31 - If God be for us, who can be against us?

We are to be a Go & Tell Church!
John 8:30-31 - Disciples of Christ will know the truth and the truth will set them free.
We cannot pick and choose what we like in God's Word and leave the rest.  It is ALL applicable.

We don't conform the book to our thinking - We change our thinking to conform with God's Word.

Jesus said, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
Romans 8:31, 35-39   Nothing can separate us from God's love.

Walking His Pathway - Knowing the Will of God

 Jeremiah 29:11-13

Yogi Berra once said, "When you come to a fork in the road - take it!"  But as Christ-followers we want to take the right one, the one which the Lord would have us take.  Today, we want to look at some principles that might help us.

Settle the issue of who is in charge.  Ref Romans 12:1-2, John 17:7    We have to surrender our will to God's will.   Us choosing our will over God's will = sin.  God's will is always best for us.

Search the Scriptures.  Ref:  Psalm 119:105, 2 Corinthians 6:14

Sense the Holy Spirit's leading.  Ref:  Romans 8:14-16, John 10:26-17, I John 4:1.  The Holy Spirit will never lead us contrary to His Will.  God is not a god of confusion.

Surrender the responsibility to God.  Ref:  I Peter 5:6-7Trust God that He will make His will known to us in His time.

Stay the course unless and until God says charge.  Ref:  Luke 9:62

Spiritual Warfare Series - Let's Rumble

Ephesians 6:10-17

A rumble is a fight or brawl, often between two street gangs, and back in the 1950's involved switch blade knives.  Today, as we continue talking about our ongoing brawl with Satan, I want to demonstrate our need to bring a blade to this fight.  Let's rumble...
