A Blueprint for Success

Presented by Pastor Randy Capote

The apostle Paul is a master at using metaphors and analogies to help us understand truth, and as can be seen in today's Biblical text, he uses a building analogy to describe how a Christ follower can achieve a successful life. But how do you define success? For the Christian, success is found at the end when we pass the final inspection, and hear our Lord say, "Well done My good and faithful servant." So right now we are building our life story, knowing there is day of reckoning coming, when we will all stand before the judgement seat of Christ (Bema seat) and have our life work inspected. Never think we work FOR our salvation, but we do work FROM our salvation, knowing these "good works" will one day come under the gaze of the only righteous judge who is the Lord Jesus Christ and some will be like gold, silver and precious stone because they will last. Others will be like wood, hay and stubble because they were done in the flesh and for our own glory or our own reasons, and they will burn up at this final judgement for Christ followers. I wonder how the building project of your life is going? Join me as we consider a "Blueprint for Success" from I Corinthians 3:10-15.

(10)According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it. (11)For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (12)Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, (13)each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. (14)If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. (15)If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.
