Big Boys Do Cry

Presented by Pastor Randy Capote

Many of us were taught as young boys that "big boys don't cry" and as a result we have a generation of men who find it difficult to allow themselves to ever weep. However, we see in our text today that the manliest man who ever lived was known to weep! Of course, when we usually think of Palm Sunday we think of the people and the shouts of Hosanna and the celebratory parade, but have you ever stopped to think about what Jesus was doing while this was going on? He was weeping for the city of Jerusalem and the sins of her people! Unfortunately, we have lost our tears in the church today. We no longer weep over sin or over lost people we know and love, but Jesus did. Do you think we should ask the Lord to give us His heart of compassion? Go back with me to the day our Lord entered Jerusalem just before His Passion week.

(41) When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it, (42) saying, ‘If you had known in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. (43) ‘For the days will come upon you when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, and surround you and hem you in on every side, (44) and they will level you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.’
